The United States expands legal immigration avenues for family reunification!
Discover new opportunities and changes in permission processes
To avoid the consequences of irregular migration, people are encouraged to use the many legal avenues that the United States has expanded over the past two years. Today, the United States announced more legal avenues, including the following:
- New permission processes (parole) for family reunification: DHS has created new permit processes for family reunification for El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Colombia. The agency is also modernizing existing family reunification permit processes in Cuba and Haiti. These processes, once completed, will allow validated individuals who have approved requests based on family reasons to enter the United States with this permit. The United States Government will issue timely and efficient authorizations for those whose trips have been approved and authorized. People who enter the United States under the permit system following these processes would be eligible to apply for work authorization.
Among the measures announced by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for Latin American migrants is a new word of family reunification for people from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Venezuela. However, DHS didn't announce many details of how it will work: they plan to do so on May 11, the day that Title 42 ends. Here's what we know about the new word for family reunification:
- The authorities have called this new word of family reunification an “advanced word” that will only apply to Salvadoran, Guatemalan, Honduran and Colombian citizens.
- People from Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba and Haiti can only benefit from the humanitarian word that has been operating since last year.
- The parole family reunification program will allow people to travel to the United States who, after a case-by-case examination, are granted this temporary permit after a family member, resident or citizen requests it and is evaluated by immigration authorities.
- Once in the country, these people will be able to apply for a work permit.
- People who cross the border illegally, either by land or by water, will be expelled and will not be eligible for this parole.
- Experts point out that this is a temporary program so that, after people are in the country, they can seek political asylum, as Alma Rosa Nieto explained to Telemundo News.
- Among the DHS announcements, the decision to renew the term of family reunification for Cubans and Haitians was also announced.
These new legal avenues provide hope and opportunities for those who want to be reunited with their loved ones in the United States.
